CULHANE'S IRISH PUB
Atmosphere: The atmosphere in Culhane's is very casual and easy going. When you enter, the bar area is in front, just off to the left. There is ample seating at the bar and the tables around it. There is a separate and spacious dining area with many booths and tables further to the left. Culhane's is much more than your average bar...this place makes you feel comforable and "at home." Their clientele is varied - couples, singles, and families gather there for the food and the nightly events. The seperate bar and dining room layout is great - when dining, one can hardly hear any spillover noise from the bar when they have music or trivia nights. This makes it ideal for conversations or celebrations! The decor is what one would expect in a pub - unpretentious and alot of wood all over the place.
Menu: The menu features traditional Irish Pub fare with nightly specials. There is a good variety and balance of menu items (Click here to see the menu) The dinner menu offers 2 portions - the "Skinny" and regular (I thought this was a great dining option not found at many eateries...)
For Appetizers we had the following items:
CRAB CAKES Seared crab cakes served over a summer veggie slaw & a citrus chipotle aioli. The crabcakes were good and the pairing with the slaw and citrus chipotle made for an interesting combination of flavors!
MUNSTER FLAT BREAD Thinly baked garlic flat bread served crisp with ripe tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles, bacon & caramelized onions. This was quite good! Perfect snack to share while drinking and talking. Cripsy bacon make everything so much better!
NANA’S SAUSAGE ROLLS A blend of Irish sausage, onions & spices rolled in a light pastry, then baked & served with deviled mustard. I enjoyed this very much...perfect bite sized morsels to eat with all the other appetizers. Many times better than the best "pigs in a blanket" you've ever had! Recommended!
Potato Leek Soup Thick, hearty and NOT salty.
For our Entrees we had:
GUINNESS BEEF STEW Certified Angus beef braised in Guinness beer & slow cooked With barley, baby portabellas, carrots & onions in savory gravy. Served over diced Yukon gold potatoes. “Guy Fieri’s Favorite 2010” - This dish was very filling and satisfying! The beef stew was very tender and flavorful and the gravy just delicious! Some gravys tend to be salty but this one was perfectly seasoned. I asked for a bead to dip in the gravy and by the end of the meal I was stuffed. Will definately order this again and will recommend this to anyone (especially now that the season is getting cooler!)
ARTHUR’S FISH & CHIPS Fresh Atlantic cod dipped in a crispy Guinness beer batter. Served with fries & tartar sauce. The cod was nicely battered and light in texture...and not greasy at all.
DINGLE FISH PIE Fresh Atlantic cod, shrimp, salmon, diced potatoes & peas in a garlic seasoned cream, crusted with cheddar cheese. “Guy Fieri’s Favorite 2010” - This dish was good, and the seafood in the cream sauce was a very good combination.
RIBS Fall off the bone, tender, and nicely seasoned.
Service: The service at Culhane's was good even though almost all the table during dinner had patrons. The waitstaff knew the menu inside and out and was able to explain dishes very thoroughly to help make a good dining decision. The attention was great - when I ordered a scotch, the bartender came out of his station to verify my order! We did not have to wait for our drinks and dinner was served in a very timely manner. Mary Jane, one of the owner-managers, was very hospitable. By the end of the evening - between drinks and dinner - we were there for about 2 hrs., not realizing the time had passed. What that means to me is that we all enjoyed the ambiance, food, and hospitality of Culhane's. Would definately recommend you to visit!
