A BOWL OF PHO
As far as Vietnamese restaurants go in Jacksonville, A Bowl of Pho is certainly one of my favorites. I have been there a few times and my only complaint is that it is the only one here. Maybe that is a good thing – if they had more than one, the quality may become compromised?! As with all food, it’s all about the cook!
Atmosphere – The restaurant is not too large and is tastefully (and sparsely) decorated. It’s not like your take out Chinese restaurant – you can actually bring people here. Most of the staff there are Asian from all parts of Asia but all speak good English and all know the dishes very well – there are even 2nd and 3rd gen. servers and they all are uniformed in black.Menu – Bowl of Pho as the name implies is Vietnamese. Most of the menu items can be found in street stalls in Vietnam – think comfort food for Asians. Most are with noodles or rice. All the appetizers that I have sampled have been good but my favorite appetizer is the fresh spring rolls ( I usually have it with tofu.) The bowls of pho that they serve come in 3 sizes and I normally get the extra large. I like my pho simple, just the noodle with thin sliced rare beef (which gets cooked from the heat of the broth.) Good stock makes the dish and traditionally it’s brewed for many, many hours. I’m not sure that they do this for hours but it’s still very good. Now, do they have the best in town? Maybe but everything else is better at Bowl of Pho.
Service – Very good. Just a tip – lunch time is very busy here but the dishes come out fast so don’t let that stop you. I normally go after the lunch crowd is gone. Enjoy! Recommended!!
